Biker suffers serious injuries in crash with parked car near Blackpool Zoo

A man was taken to hospital with suspected head and leg injuries after his motorbike hit a parked car close to Blackpool Zoo earlier.

The accident happened at around 5.50am in East Park Drive, police said, and saw the road closed in both directions from Blackpool Victoria Hospital to Lawson Road.

Debris was left scattered across both sides of the road after the black Yamaha bike collided with the red BMW, a spokeswoman for Lancashire Police added.

The man was taken to the nearby hospital, and the injuries to his legs were described as 'serious'.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said an ambulance and rapid response car were sent out following a call at 5.53am, and said a man in his 30s was taken to hospital.

She was unable to give details of his condition.

Blackpool Transport said buses were being diverted away from the road. It was reopen by around 9.30am.
