Tots’ Royal mail from long-serving Queen

Pre-school children at Tree Tots Nursery in Kirkham were delighted to be sent a missive from Buckingham Palace, after they sent pictures and messages to the Queen when she became Britain’s longest-serving monarch ever.

Sarah Cartmell, nursery deputy manager and Oak Tree room leader, said: “We sent some pictures to mark The Queen becoming the longest-serving monarch.

“We talked with the children about where she lives, and looked at pictures of her homes and Buckingham Palace.Then we walked to the Post Office and posted all of their pictures off to her.”

On September 9, the Queen became the longest-reigning British monarch, and also the longest-reigning female monarch in world history, at the age of 89.

She became Queen on February 6, 1952, and her record surpassed Queen Victoria’s.

The children at the nursery were excited when a letter returned, said Sarah. “It was lovely to get a letter back from the palace.

“The children were very excited to get something back.

“We realised what it was when we saw it in the post.

“It was addressed to all of the Oak Tree children, who are our pre-schoolers, and it was marked with royal stamp.

“We then talked about the Queen being on stamps and on money.”

“The Queen wishes me to thank you all for your lovely pictures and the kind messages of congratulations you have sent on the occasion of Her Majesty becoming the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

“The Queen has been touched by the support, affection and loyalty she has received at this time and, although unable to reply to you personally, owing to the many hundreds of letters sent to Her Majesty in recent weeks, the Queen was very glad to hear from you.

“I am to send Her Majesty’s good wishes to you all and to thank you again for the great care and thought you have taken to draw your special pictures.”
