Jamie Ramsden from South Shore is working with Robert Patton, a US marine who fought in Iraq, to sell premium underpants designed for athletes and people who work in high temperatures.

They have a special pocket inside for the delicate parts of the male anatomy which is designed to reduce chaffing under conditions of extreme exercise such as in combat sports, athletics or in hot work areas such as kitchens.

Jamie, an engineer who works at BAE Systems is involved in mixed martial arts and says that the pants are ideal for training.

They have already had interest from several gyms in Blackpool and a host of well known fighter and boxers including Brian Rose who is to fight Jack Arnfield this Saturday night at the Manchester Arena for the WBA international middleweight title.

And his company Sheath Underwear UK has won support from former world champion Floyd Mayweather, with Jamie meeting him in Liverpool on his recent promotional tour of the UK thanks to help from his friend James Ward of Blackpool-based Gold Star Promotions.

Jamie, 31, said: “I have been involved with mixed martial arts for some time and I got a tweet from this guy in Texas asking if he could share his advert. I said no, not unless I could try the pants for myself. He sent me six pairs.”

He said from there he offered to market them in the UK and Europe. He said: “It was when Robert was serving in Iraq with all the heat that he realised that underpants with a special pocket could be a good idea. He started his business – Sheath – about three years ago in the states and they have become popular with combat sports enthusiasts.

“He has boxers, mixed martial arts people and professional NHL hockey players promoting them.

“Over here we have had people run marathons in them, boxers such as Brian Rose and Jack Massey use them and everyone has come back and said they were fantastic.

“We have sponsorship with elite fitness health club owner Mike Nicholson, power lifters Jordan Patterson and David Simpson and mixed martial arts fighter Kent Kauppinen. Meeting Floyd Mayweather was surreal and fantastic, he was a real star.

“I started working with Robert in September 2015 and selling the product online. We sell mainly on line but also gyms in Blackpool.”
