With three weeks to go until the Sunday, May 10 event - taking place in aid of Trinity Hospiece and Brian House - more than 800 people have signed up to take part.

So too have 80 volunteers, though more are required.

“This is one of the biggest events in the calendar for us,” said Shirley Morgan, from Trinity’s fundrasing team.

“It raises a lot of money and this year’s is extra-special because it is our 30th birthday.

“Because of that a lot of people are sending us £30 along with their entry forms or pledging to raise at least £30 in sponsorship, which is really great.

“We had almost 2,000 people entering last year so to already have 800 at this stage is great and bodes well for the big day.”

The 10K, as usual, will be a mix of serious athletes and those simply out to have some fun, many who will be running the course along the promenade in fancy dress.

“We do get a good mix, “ explained Mrs Morgan. “It’s got a reputation as a fast course so we get serious runners from all over the country entering. We’ve already got running clubs from London, Birmingham and Glasgow signed up for this year.

“But we also get loads of individuals, businesses and schools, who enter because they want to support a local good cause and have a bit of fun.

“Some of the costumes last year were memorable and we’re expecting the same again this time.”

Those who can’t stand the thought of waking up early on a Sunday morning to go running but still wish to help, can get involved by volunteering.

“Because we use the whole promenade from North Shore to Starr Gate, we need marshalls on every road that joins the prom to let drivers know it is closed and explain where the diversions are,” added Mrs Morgan.

“We’ve got about 80 volunteers so far but could still do with a few more. and Iwould encourage anyone interested to get in touch and help make it a really successful day.”

Those willing to volunteer can email [email protected] or call 01253 359362.
