Time to cash in as Proms bonanza nears sell-out

Organisers of the Lytham Proms have revealed ticket sales are close to reaching that bumper figure – with hotel bosses adding they are nearing a sell out for all three nights of the spectacular event.

President of the Holiday Association of Lytham St Annes, Barbara Mackenzie, and owner of The Anchorage Hotel in St Annes, said: “We are pretty much booked up already for that weekend and I’m certain it’s the case for many hotels across the coast.

“It really is good for business. It’s great for Lytham and St Annes.

“At the turn of the year many of the hotels are quiet, but anything to boost the numbers like this across the summer months is good for us all.

“People who go to the festival don’t want to have to drive home after – they want to stop in town, stay over and make a weekend out of it.

“If the weather continues as it is it promises to be a great weekend for proms-goers and of course hoteliers.”

Bed and breakfast hotels, as well as larger venues, such as The Grand Hotel and The Clifton Arms, revealed there are no rooms left on the Friday and Saturday nights of the three-day extravaganza, with rooms selling fast for the Sunday night of the event.

With warm weather expected, ticket sales are expected to increase up until the opening night of the proms on August 2, as a host of eighties stars – including Jason Donovan and Tony Hadley take to the stage.

Tenor sensation Russell Watson will perform on the Saturday, while pop singer Rita Ora headlines Sunday night’s festivities.

Peter Taylor, one half of Proms organisers Cuffe and Taylor, said this year’s event promises to be hugely successful for the Fylde coast.

“We are in for our biggest year yet. The ticket sales are going really well. The good weather is certainly assisting,” he said.
