Thug grabs necklace

An elderly woman was left shocked after an attacker knocked her to the ground and stole her necklace as she walked along Blackpool Promenade.

The 79-year-old victim was on the seafront opposite the Imperial Hotel in North Shore when the incident happened.

Police say she was with three members of her family when they were approached by a lone man who grabbed the woman from behind and pulled the necklace from around her neck.

She fell to the ground and her attacker ran off.

Detective Sergeant Neil Smith, of Blackpool CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty attack on an elderly woman in broad daylight.

“The victim has been left extremely shaken and we would now urge anybody who saw the incident, or who can help us identify the offender, to please get in touch.”

The incident happened between 12 noon and 12.10pm on Tuesday.

The offender is described as a white male, of slim build, approximately 6ft tall, with short, dark brown hair. He was wearing a grey t-shirt and dark-coloured shorts or trousers.
