Three queens prepare for Freckleton Club Day

The South Fylde Club Day spotlight switches to Freckleton this Saturday.

The traditional religious procession of witness around the village signals the start of the proceedings, beginning at 9.30am and featuring Holy Trinity CE, Freckleton Methodist and Holy Family RC Church representativess, followed by Scouts and Guides.

This year is the 175th anniversary of Freckleton Church of England Primary School, and to mark the occasion, pupils will be participating in the CE procession.

It is also the 50th anniversary of Strike Lane Primary School, and children from there will be involved in the Methodist Church section.

Meanwhile, youngsters from Holy Family School will be present in the Holy Family procession.

As in previous years the churches will be supporting Trinity Hospice with members of the Hospice Committee participating in the procession.

The procession starts from the traffic lights next the Plough Hotel in the village centre and will head along Lytham Road, Derwent Drive, Ribble Avenue, Bush Lane, Croft Butts and Preston Old Road to Marsh Gates and then return along Preston Old Road and School Lane to the CE School for the crowning ceremony.

Afterwards, the Rose Queens and retinues will follow Freckleton Band to the Cenotaph for a service.

The Rose Queens and retinues will then head to Holy Trinity churchyard to lay wreaths on the Childrens Grave, in memory of those who perished when an aircraft crashed on the village’s CE Primary School in 1944.

In the afternoon, from 1.30pm, the Rose Queens and their retinues, led by Freckleton Band, will walk from the village centre along Lytham Road, Clitheroes Lane and Bush Lane, to the Hodgson Playing Fields for the opening of the children’s sports at 2pm. Adult sports will follow at 6.30pm.
