Thousands take the Bubble Rush of excitement

Organisers hope the colourful event will bring in up to £50,000 for the children’s hospice in its 21st birthday year.

Participants ran or walked through mounds of bright foam and by the end their white Bubble Rush T-shirts were totally coloured in on Saturday afternoon.

Linzi Young, head of fund raising for Trinity Hospice and Brian hHouse said: “When we launch a new event we never know quite what to expect but Bubble Rush really surpassed all expectations.

“We were originally hoping for 1,000 runners and got more than double, and it was such a happy group of people.

“There were big groups of families and friends taking part together, with participants aged from under five to over 80.

“Several Hospice staff members took part and also helped the team of volunteers who made sure everything went to plan.

“Many asked if we would do it again next year - watch this space!

“A huge thank you to everyone who got involved this time - either as a runner or a volunteer - it really was a fantastic day.”

The only slight hitch to the event was that the promised medals for everyone who took part were unavailable because of a supply problem but badges were handed out instead and organisers have said their medals will follow.

Linzi added: “It was a bit of a last minute worry but everyone was great about it.”

The next birthday event for Brian House is the Blackpool 10k next month, when around 2,000 serious and fun runners will race along the Promenade, and Trinity Hospice will stage its third annual Colour Splash paint run on the beach from Starr Gate to St Annes in July.
