Members of staff quickly evacuated shoppers before raising the alarm after smoke was spotted in the store shortly before 11.10am today (October 9).

Four fire engines were sent to the scene where upon arrival they found the smoke was coming from a faulty light fitting.

Engineers were called to fix the light and three of the fire engines were stepped down once crews made sure there was no risk of a potential blaze.

It has now been confirmed shoppers have been allowed back into the store and fire crews no longer remain on the scene.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 11.08am and for any building like that we send four fire engines.

"When we got there we found there was smoke coming from a light fitting but there was no fire.

"We made sure it was safe and an engineer was called. One fire engine remained on the scene."
