Ten Fylde coast parks given best green honour
Six ‘green spaces’ parks in Fylde and four in Wyre were awarded Green Flags yesterday.
Ashton Gardens and Promenade Gardens in St Annes, Lowther Gardens and the War Memorial in Lytham, Fairhaven Lake, and Elswick Village were Fylde’s lucky winners.

Hide AdIn Wyre, Vicarage Park in Poulton, the Wyre Estuary Country Park in Stanah, Memorial Park in Fleetwood and Hawthorn Park in Thornton received the award.
Coun Simon Bridge, street scene, parks and open spaces portfolio holder at Wyre Council, said: “We are very proud to win Green Flags Awards for our parks. What a great way to mark Love Parks Week.
“I would like to thank all the volunteers, Wyre Council officers and friends groups for all their hard work and dedication. They ensure the parks are kept tidy and clean, and facilities and events are available for everyone around the borough to enjoy.”
Wyre Council is currently celebrating Love Parks Week, with events held at some of its award winning parks.

Hide AdLes Fletcher, chairman of Friends of Memorial park group said: “This is the fourth consecutive year Memorial Park has won this award and I’m very glad we’ve done it again.
“The group works tirelessly, alongside Wyre Council’s officers to maintain and enhance the park’s natural beauty, and this award is a great achievement for the ongoing effort we all put in.”
A spokesman for Fylde Council said: “Fylde’s parks team work tirelessly through all weathers to ensure these open spaces are maintained to the highest standard. With the snow, ice, rain and heatwaves that we’ve had already this year, it is great for their hard work to be recognised with the Green Flag Award.”
A record-breaking 1,883 UK parks were awarded the Green Flag for 2018, with 233 of these being in the North West.
