Tank plans will improve water

A renovation project to improve water in Blackpool is set to take place on a South Shore playing field.

Water utility company United Utilities has submitted a planning application for a new underground water storage tank to be built on Fishers Field off Highfield Road.

Highfield councillor Lily Henderson welcomed the project.

She said: “There has long been a need for a water tank in Highfield and when I had a meeting with United Utilities they decided that Fishers Field was the best place to have it.

“It will hopefully ease flooding around the pavement.The drainage system here has needed doing badly for a number of years. We hope work will be starting within the next month.”A United Utilities spokesman said: “We have recently submitted a planning application for work in Fishers Field. This would involve the construction of a new underground storm water storage tank.

“This project forms part of our continuing investment in Blackpool to upgrade parts of our sewer network to ensure we’re playing our part to help improve bathing waters across the Fylde coast.”
