Unseasonally wild weather gave these walkers an unexpected soaking as crashing waves left the Fylde coast looking more like winter than summer.

High waves were captured spilling over the sea walls by Gazette photographer DAN MARTINO on Tuesday.

But the blustery conditions didn’t last - with settled, dry and warm(ish) weather set to arrive for the first weekend of the football season.

Temperatures in Blackpool won’t set the world alight, with the thermometer struggling to hit 17 degrees on Saturday, but it will be dry and bright, forecasters say.
