Start date set for £18m project

Building work for the Mill Farm project at Wesham – including a 6,000 capacity stadium for football team AFC Fylde – is set to start on March 9.

In a statement a spokesman for the club said the project would begin next month after the final legal documents were signed with Fylde Council.

A spokesman said: “Next week we will be announcing which firm has won the building contract but they have already informed us they will be starting on site week commencing March 9.”

The spokesman added the plans, which include an Aldi supermarket, pub, petrol station and other retail units is still subject to challenge under judicial review, but remained “resonably confident” this would not happen.

The judicial review period started on Tuesday and will last for six weeks.
