The former Blackpool and Fylde College student, best known from TV’s Life On Mars, State Of Play and more recently Prey and The Village, is working with Parents In Performing Arts, as it recognises that the ‘lack of affordable, flexible childcare and consideration for the needs of families will continue to see huge numbers of parents working in performing arts being forced to leave our industry.’

According to Parents In Performing Arts, the average wage in the creative industries is £16,575, and the average cost of a full time nursery place in London is £14,750.

PIPA said: “We want to create an entertainment industry that values all artists equally, thinks innovatively about how to employ parents and challenges the assumption that a creative profession isn’t compatible with parenthood.

“We’re calling for parents to demand more, for employers to step up and for industry bodies to take the lead.”

The campaign’s official launch takes place on Friday, October 16.
