St Annes Town Council invests in bunting for Queen's birthday and carnival

St Annes Town Council has invested around £2,000 in new red white and blue bunting, which has already been placed on the carnival procession route, weeks ahead of the event taking place in July.

The town council has brought forward its annual RNLI Lifeboat Concert, normally held in September, to June 11 to coincide with the royal birthday festivities and, with the Carnival, taking place on July 9 and 10, being followed later in July by the town’s biggest kite festival yet, it promises to be a summer to remember in St Annes.

Town clerk Sally Taylor said: “This is a special year and we wanted the bunting in place to mark the Queen’s Birthday celebrations and to brighten up the town during the summer months.

“Previously, we shared bunting with other Fylde parishes, so the bunting was only up for a short period at Carnival time.

“Now we have our own bunting, the town council aims to keep it up for the summer months, subject of course to weather conditions.

“Along with the Queen’s Birthday, the carnival and the Kite Festival, there are many other events taking place this summer, such as St Annes Music and Arts Festival, which coincides with the Kite Festival, and the town will be looking very colourful in readiness for all of these.

“We might even look at possibly keeping the bunting up for the Food Fayre which is set for August 4 to 21.”

The RNLI Concert for the Queen’s 90th Birthday on June 11 starts at 2pm and admission is free, with donations to the RNLI welcome.
