Sports star Isabella wins Sheraton cup

An exceptional youngster has been awarded a trophy in recognition of her sporting prowess.

St Wulstan’s and St Edmond’s Catholic Primary School pupil Isabella Hendry, 11, was awarded the Sheraton Trophy after representing her school in a variety of sports including football, tag rugby, cross country, swimming, dancing, cricket and athletics.

She was made sports ambassador for her school, and writes a blog and encourages other children to take part in sporting events.

Isabella’sdad, Neil Hendry, said: “Izzy’s lust for life and infectious personality are visible to all who meet her, but it is through sports she really shines.

“I feel Izzy is a true inspiration to many people young and old and a prime example that nothing is impossible to achieve.”

Isabella, who has cystic fibrosis, was awarded the trophy at the Civic Centre in Poulton last week by the Mayor or Wyre, councillor Terry Lees.

She said: “It was a big surprise and I didn’t even find out that I’d won until I arrived!

“I’m really looking forward to continuing to be involved in so many sporting activities.”

The new Mayor of Wyre, councillor Alice Collinson and deputy mayor councillor Julie Robinson were also officially installed at the annual general meeting.

Councillor Alice Collinson’s chosen charities for the year are Marie Curie and North West Air Ambulance.
