SLIDESHOW: Wartime treat for community at school

Senior Citizen Tea Dance hosted by pupils at South Shore Academy

Seventy residents from care homes in South Shore, Marton and Blackpool visited South Shore Academy, on St Annes Road, for the event.

Schoolchildren from years 10 and 11 had baked cakes and made sandwiches, designed special plates, cake stands and table decorations, hung up Union flags, and dressed up in 20s style dress to fit with the theme.

Singers from Bluebird Entertainment provided music.

Teacher David Milroy said: “It was a real community event to celebrate 100 years since World War One.

“The students were dressed up and we had some great entertainment.

“It was a good thing for them to do their technology coursework around and it raises their awareness of World War One, the importance of it and the role older generations played in it.

“The children were excellent, everyone really enjoyed it. We’re all very proud of the pupils, they really rose to the occasion.”
