“There was no trouble in town and everyone had a great time.”

The crowning of Isobel Russell as the new Rose Queen in succession to Anna Jackson took place in the afternoon, while attractions included everything from donkey rides to hot air balloon rides, coconut shies to climbing trees as well as the Kaos high-wire centre.

Small fairground rides were available for children while the main Club Day Fair continued on its regular site at the west end of The Green.

In the evening at the Hall, music was played by a Ceilidh band followed by a steel band with classic buses available to take people back to the gates in Ballam Road.

Cath added: “There was a great atmosphere and we had plenty of people singing along.

“The feedback from the public was ‘why has it not been here before?’

“Most people were saying they wanted to bring it here again.

“I did not hear one complaint.
