Seven Fylde green spaces and parks in the running for prestigious national award

Seven of Fylde’s most popular parks and gardens have been entered into the Green Flag Awards, as the borough celebrates its strongest showing yet in the national green space competition.

Seven of Fylde’s most-loved parks and gardens are in the running for one of the UK’s most prestigious environmental accolades after being entered into the 2026 Green Flag Awards.

Six council-owned sites have been nominated, including the newly created Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Gardens in St Annes, which makes its debut in the competition this year.

It joins established favourites Fairhaven Lake Gardens, Promenade Gardens, Ashton Gardens, Lowther Gardens and Lytham War Memorial Gardens, all recognised for their high-quality horticulture, maintenance and community value.

Also included in this year’s line-up is Elswick Village Hall and Garden, entered by Elswick Parish Council, rounding off what officials have described as Fylde’s strongest ever representation in the awards.

The Green Flag Award scheme is the national benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces. Judges assess sites on a wide range of criteria, including environmental management, cleanliness, biodiversity, safety and how well they engage with local communities.

A spokesperson for Fylde Council said: “Our parks and gardens are at the heart of community life in Fylde – places where families make memories, nature flourishes and people come together.

“To have seven fantastic sites in the running, including Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Gardens entering for the very first time, fills me with enormous pride. We’ll be keeping everything crossed for the results this summer.”

Judging will take place this spring with the winners of the 2026 Green Flag Awards due to be announced in the summer.

In the meantime, residents are being encouraged to make the most of their local green spaces and enjoy the borough’s award-nominated parks on their doorstep.

Results are expected to generate strong local interest as Fylde continues to invest in its public green spaces for the future.
