Second car found after terrifying knife raid

A second car has been recovered in the hunt for a gang who threatened guards in an armed raid at a St Annes supermarket.

Up to three men ambushed guards at Sainsbury’s on St Andrew’s Road North at 8.30am on Monday before escaping with cash.

The guards were shaken but unhurt.

Det Insp Gareth Willis from Blackpool CID said, “The investigation into the cash in transit robbery at Sainsbury’s remains on going and we have a number of detectives working on the case.

“Our inquiries have led us to the discovery of a second vehicle that we believe has been involved in the robbery.

“A Peugeot 307 was discovered on Blackpool Road in Ansdell.

“This follows the earlier discovery of a Mini Cooper on St Annes Road East.

“We would renew our appeal to the public to come forward with information and I’m particularly keen to hear from people who saw either of these two cars in the area on Monday morning.

“We are looking to build up a picture of what happened both in the run up to the robbery and the immediate aftermath. Where did the offenders go, especially when they left the Ansdell area?”

Call police on 101.
