The Terracotta Warriors were created on the orders of the First Emperor of China, some 2,000 years ago, but only discovered by chance in 1974.

Ted Cooper, Assistant District Commissioner, responsible for the Cub Scout Section in Blackpool, said: “160 Cubs and leaders from nine different groups attended the trip to the Terracotta Army exhibition at World Museum Liverpool.

“It was fantastic to see this display on its first visit to the UK. Cubs and leaders alike were mesmerised by the artefacts and history on display and all learnt so much.

“It’s an excellent exhibition for all ages that is well worth the visit.

“This and the opportunity to spend the rest of the day exploring the World Museum meant an excellent day for all involved.”

The exhibition features more than 180 spectacular artefacts from museums across Shaanxi Province, more than half of which have never been on show in the UK before.

It tells the story of the formative years of the Chinese nation and will be on display until October 28.

Celebrating long service

More than 65 adult and young voluntary leaders give so many hours of their time up to support Blackpool youngsters in their Scouting adventures.

They make up the Scout Active Support Unit(SASU) and are often retired leaders, or former leaders, whose skills are invaluable.

At their bi-monthly meeting held last Monday at St John Vianney’s Parish Centre, Glastonbury Avenue, Marton, District Commissioner for Blackpool Scouts Victoria Da Silva gave Long Service Certificates to two of members.

Christine Fitton was recognised for 50 years of service, and Russell Catlow for 40 years’ service.

Change of venue for Gang

Having spent many wonderful years performing on some of the greatest musical stages in Blackpool, the Gang Show is proud to return to the iconic Grand Theatre.

Opened in 1894, and designed by Frank Matcham, the Grand Theatre is a Grade II Listed Building.

District Youth Commissioner Jordan Shuck said: “The 2018 and 57th Blackpool Gang Show is changing venue and will be held at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool.

“The show will run from Wednesday, October 24 and until Saturday, October 27.

“The shows will be nightly at 7.30pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with a matinee at 2pm and an evening show at 7pm on the Saturday.

“The last time the Gang Show performed on the Grand Theatre stage was in 1991, when we had a four year association with the icon that is the Grand Theatre.

This is a very exciting time for Blackpool Gang Show.”

Gang Show director Darrell Shuck said: “It is great to be back at the Grand.

“Not many of the gang will remember performing there. The cast and crew are ready for the new challenge and I urge everyone to come and see us.

“Let’s make it a sell out!”
