Cold, winter days don’t stop these young Scouts from having fun during a weekend trip away.

Youngsters from 1st Norbreck Scouts enjoyed an activity-packed weekend in Windermere... in the cold month of February!

Aged 10.5 to 14, they enjoyed a brilliant active weekend at a national camp site called Great Towers.

Situated on the edge of Lake Windermere, in the Lake District, it is often used by many groups from Blackpool and those on the Fylde area, county, regional, national and international.

Claire Hadcraft, Scout Leader with the 1st Norbreck, said the whole weekend was “brilliant”.

She said: The camp was our yearly ‘ice tour camp’ held at Great Towers in Windermere on February 10 to February 12.

“The kids took part in learning basic cooking and fire safety.

“The kids learnt how to start fires, how to use an axe and saw safely.

“They also cooked steam sponge puddings on wood fires to complement our tea.

“We played the human hungry hippos game which was so much fun, took at late night hike up to the top of Tower Rock with amazing views of Windermere.

“Great fun was had by all, it even gave us a little sprinkling of snow in the Sunday morning.”

* Meanwhile, the organisation is currently looking for adult support in all areas.

Beavers are for six to eight-year-olds, Cubs are for eight to 10.5-year-old and Scouts are for 10.5 to 14-year-olds.

There is also the Explorer Scouts section for those aged 14-18, Network for 18 to 25 year-olds and the Support Adult Services Unit.

Ahoy me hearties, all hand hoy!

Jack Sparrow, Lady Elizabeth Killicrew and Long John Silver have met their match with these young pirates.

The Beaver Scouts, aged six to eight from 3rd Blackpool Scout Group, had a great time acting like pirates at their last meeting at St Mark’s Church, Layton.

Lorraine Crossan, Beaver Scout Leader, said: “ Avast me hearties tonight we have been the pirates of 3rd Blackpool. We turned ourselves into pirates by designing our own bandannas.

“Put our knot tying to good practice by tying the captains boots and used our turn taking skills to play roll a pirate game.

We made good pirates and no one had to walk the plank... this time!”

Lots of fun at sponsored sleepover

Parents had a welcome break for one night only, as the 4th Blackpool Scout Group had a fantastic night and day at their group headquarters.

They enjoyed their first sponsored sleepover at 4th Blackpool Scout Group, Cherwell Centre, Chepstow Place, Grange Park.

Lorraine Howe said: “All 17 Cubs threw themselves enthusiastically into all activities planned.

“While on the sleepover they completed several tasks towards badges.

“Some of the older Cubs taught the younger ones how to play chess in preparation for the forthcoming chess competition.

“We are probably looking at the next generation of budding chefs, they were all a whizz in the kitchen, each six having a course to prepare for lunch. They did a fantastic job raising funds whilst having fun.”
