The group, which is based at St Stephen’s on the Cliff Church in North Shore, travelled to the museum by one of the greatest inventions – the train –to Manchester and were able to have a look at many of the inventions there from Brunel to Sinclair, from Eddison to Cox.

Amy Southern, Scout Leader, said: ‘The Scout section from 51st St Stephen’s-on-the-Cliffs, Blackpool, went to the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester, on April 1.

“We started off in the Great Western Warehouse where we learnt about Manchester’s role in science and industry and working textile machinery.

“After that, we then went up to the Experiment! exhibition.

“This is a hands on exhibition where the Scouts learnt how different things worked from electricity to lifting a Mini Cooper up in the air!

“They loved running around the place.

“They didn’t want to leave.

“The power hall seemed to be the Scouts’ favourite part of the trip, learning how engines and trains work.

“They even took part in the demonstrations.

“They also seemed to enjoy the aeroplanes in the air and space hall.”

Rehearsals underway for 56th Gang Show

Rehearsals for Blackpool Scouts Gang Show have started in earnest at the Scream Theatre, off Mowbray Drive, in Layton.

The Gang performers spend every Tuesday evening practicing for the show which will take place from Tuesday, October 18 until Saturday, October 21.

During the run, there will be nightly performances from the Wednesday through to the Friday starting at 7.30pm, a Saturday matinee at 2pm, followed by a final evening performance at 7pm.

The shows will be held in the Glove Theatre at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Darrell Shuck, director of The Gang Show, said: “Sign on for Blackpool Gang Show is well under way with Scouts and Guides from across Blackpool signing up to be in the 56th Scout Gang Show to be held at the Globe Theatre at Blackpool Pleasure Beach from Wednesday, October 18 to Saturday, October 21.

“The show encourages fun, the building of friendship, excitement and developing the essential skills and confidence young people need to navigate life, not to mention enter the workplace.

“Blackpool Gang Show is one of the longest running Scout Gang Shows and is a variety show of entertainment for all to enjoy.

Who would’ve thought boxes could be so fun?

The 1st Norbreck Scout Section, based at their headquarters of Carr Lane, enjoyed a couple of evenings being creative with cardboard boxes.

They attempted to bake their cakes in cardboard boxes traditionally, called “Boxed Oven Cooking”.

The boxes are covered by foil, then charcoal is placed in a tin and the embers lit. They then become hot and you simply cook your food or, in this case, cakes

More fun with cardboard boxes involved making castles to armour, headgear to a boat out of the boxes. ,

There were both fun evenings allowing the Scouts to work together.
