Nikki Bonsor said: “On Saturday, September 23, older Cubs and younger Scouts gathered together for a night away at Mowbreck campsite in Kirkham.

“The idea behind the event was to give the older Cubs a chance to link with the younger Scouts so that the transition between the sections is smoother.

“Each group entered a team of three Cubs and three Scouts to take part in a variety of activities that challenged them mentally and physically, as well as encouraging them to work as a team.

“In total, 42 young people from all over Blackpool took part.

Cub points add up to prizes

Every year from September to July, youngsters aged between eight and 10.5 from all our Cub Packs in the District gain points for entering district events, and organised group activities

So from chess to swimming, Gang Show, to sleepovers/camping, carol service, to jamboree on the trail, St. George’s Day Parade activities, Commissioner’s Flag, these are then accumulated together with extra bonus points for winning.

This year’s winners were the 45th Blackpool Cub Pack based at St. Christopher’s Church Hall, Hawes Side Lane.

Well done to all those connected to the 45th Blackpool Scout Group!

Facing their spider fears

About this time of the year every Scout group in Blackpool, county and nationally hold their Annual Meeting to report on the activities and accounts of their group.

For the 24th Blackpool Scouts this was no different, unless of course you had a phobia of very large spiders, brought in by the organisation called “Hands on Animals”.

During the meeting reports were given by the leaders and their successful year.
