Scouting Snapshots

It was celebration time for the 45th Blackpool Scout Group as members marked its platinum anniversary.

The group has served the families of Hawes Side and Marton for 70 years.

Dianne Leyland, Akela who has been with the group since 1976, said: “We celebrated 70 years at the 45th Blackpool Scout Group (St Christopher’s) .

“It all started on December 11, 1947 and was originally registered to St Nicholas Church.

“It was not until 1971 that the registration was finally officially changed to St Christopher’s.

“The first meetings we at a house on St Nicholas Road with a Mr W Crellin in charge.

“Later meetings took place in a stone barn which unfortunately had a stone floor this is where the Pack and the scout Troop met before they moved into the church hall.

“Mike Loomes was Akela then and Neville Wiseman was Scout leader.

“Beavers joined us in 1986.

“We have always been very lucky to have lots of leader support and have always had all sections full and sometimes having waiting lists.

“We join in as many District events as we can as and put as much fun, challenge and adventure into every pack night.

“I am so proud to have been part of this fantastic family.”

Snow much fun for Scouts!

Holidays came early for 1st Bispham Scout Group who enjoyed a weekend away to Littledale in Lancaster.

Sophie Hornby, Akela, said: “What a fantastic weekend we had! The pack holiday ran from Friday to Sunday.

“The children made stockings and hung them up ready for Santa to visit before watching a film.

“On Saturday, we woke to find Santa had filled each of their stockings with goodies!

“The site was thick with snow, it was like a real winter wonderland!”

The children enjoyed crafts and activities, fun in the snow, games and a three mile walk.

Sophie added: “I can’t thank the leaders enough.”

for all their hard work in being able to give the children this great opportunity.

Festive games for everyone

An evening of Christmas fun and friendship was enjoyed by 23rd Blackpool Cubs.

The youngsters aged between eight and 10.5 meet at St Mary’s Church Hall.

The leaders arranged a game in the dark where the Christmas baubles were placed in the centre of the room, the Cubs were placed into two teams with a goalie at each end of the room –and they burnt off a lot energy!

The simple object was to get as many baubles to the goalie.

Then it was onto a bit of craft by making a Santa Claus tree decoration which could be lit up for the youngsters to take home to hang up on their family tree.
