Coun Lily Henderson and President of the Blackpool District Scout Council will host the first of many coffee mornings this year to support and send groups of young people to explore different countries.

The event will be held on Saturday, January 20 at St Christopher’s Parish Centre, Hawes Side Lane, South Shore, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The morning will include a cake stall, raffle, tombola, and card stall.

There are many varied camps and gatherings throughout the next five years, being organised by West Lancashire Scout Council, or National Headquarters.

For example in the next two years there are some fantastic opportunities for Scouts aged between 14 and 18 in areas such as alpine sking, snow and ice in Scotland, Red International Camp, based at Great Towers Camp Site, Winderemere, Nepal, Go Kandesteg, Northern Mediterranean Explorers Belt, Uganda Community and of course the 24th World jamboree in California, USA, where Scouts will meet up with over 35,000 Scouts.

These are such breathtaking experiences of a life time, where the young people have the opportunity to meet and make new friends, and enjoy the challenges of a lifetime.

So please support if you can, and donations towards these activities would be gratefully received.

Although many of the individual Scouts contribute to their own travels, we as a District, and our County, do our very best to assist the young people to achieve their travel costs, plus medical costs, through fund-raising events like bag packing car washing, race nights and coffee mornings.

It all helps these young people to achieve their goals.

Vote to help Scout camp

Blackpool Scouts are asking Tesco customers to throw their support behind the organisation.

Blackpool District Scouts Mowbreck Campsite has been chosen for the next round of voting in the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme to help plant trees at the campsite.

The Scouts have asked for £3,840 to cover hire of machinery , ground cover , railway sleepers, deposit for new mowing machine, new strimmer, wheelbarrows and gardening equipment.

Voting takes place up to Wednesday, February 28.
