Scouting Snapshots

This is precisely what the Scouts of the 1st Norbreck did recently on a weekend away at Bispham Hall Scout Activity centre, near Wigan,

They travelled by minibus and had fantastic weekend of learning by doing as individuals and in teams, from cooking on open fires, to axe safety, and working on environmental projects.

The youngster,s aged 
between 10.5 and 14, were supported by their voluntary Scout leaders.

They all had a great time.

They may have got a bit muddy but all got stuck in!

Clare Hadcraft, Scout leader, said the group enjoyed the trip. She said: “The camp was our annual ice tour camp at Bispham Hall in Wigan where the kids went right back to 
basics.

“They worked together in patrols cooking on fires, making shelters, tables and stools, where they showed some amazing ideas.

“Great fun was had by all and we even teamed up with a group from Liverpool doing the Duke of Edinburgh and had a huge wide game to finish Saturday night fun before bed.”

Youngsters learn all about the Fair Trade coffee industry

The 7th Blackpool Beaver Colony spent Bank Holiday Monday as guests of Starbrucks on Preston New Road, learning all about how the company works and their relationship with the Fairtrade industry.

Lyn Porter, Beaver Leader, said: “We learnt about Fair Trade and where it comes from, and were told how they can reuse their ground coffee beans.

“The children were able to draw some pictures on a map.

“They were asked if they knew where coffee came from and if they knew how many Fair Trade products were about.

“They were also able to feel the coffee beans that had been used.

“Starbucks only use Fair Trade products.

“They finished the night with a hot chocolate and chocolate coin and two investitures.

“The visit will also go towards one of their Global Challenge Awards.”
