Scouting Snapshots

The 44th Blackpool Scouts recently enjoyed a great evening at the site, taking part in outdoor activities such as making their own personal fires and cooking marshmallows.

They also put their talents to the test by helping to plant trees, flowers, clearing leaves, and wood.

The 44th Blackpool Scouts, based at St John Vianney’s Parish Centre, on Glastonbury Avenue, Marton, had a great time in learning by doing.

Their hard work helping the environment will go towards achieving their Chief Scout Gold Award.

A spokesman for 44th Blackpool Scouts said: “Scouts and Cubs were at Mowbreck, planting trees, lighting fires, eating marshmallows and playing games.”

Blackpool Scouts were recently awarded £1,000 by Tesco Extra, through their Community Support Scheme, for the continued development of Mowbreck.

Mowbreck Scout Campsite is a three-acre site with a large camping field and woodland area. As well as the camping facilities, there is also a toilet block, a galley kitchen and dry shelters.

Scouts show their pride

Blackpool District Scout leaders were delighted to celebrate diversity and equality at Blackpool Pride 2018.

They joined other leaders from West Lancashire Scouts to take part in one of many national celebrations, with one being held on the Promenade in Blackpool last Saturday.

It was a brilliant, sunny day with lots of rainbow colour, happy faces, showing what a great diverse movement we are in with Scouts proudly holding banners and waving flags taking part in a fabulous parade.

People took over the Promenade, making their way from the Sandcastle to North Pier before gathering by the Metropole Hotel for entertainment.

A battle against litterbugs

Youngsters from 7th and 45th Blackpool Scout Groups are investing in their future by joining the war on litterbugs.

The group took part in an evening of litter picking along Blackpool seafront, organised by the Sea Life Centre.

Stewart Swan, Scout Leader of the 7th Blackpool Scouts Section, said: “As part of one of the challenge badges, the 45th and the 7th Blackpool Scouts took part in a beach clean managed by the Sea Life Centre.

“This was from North Pier to Central Pier and out to the ebbing sea, picking up as much rubbish as possible that might have ended up in the sea or what was left on the shore by ebbing tide.

“This took about one and a half hours and in that time about 50 kilos of a variety of rubbish was collected.

“We’d like to thank the Sea Life Centre for the use of all their gear to complete this task.”
