Scouting Snapshots

More than 120 youngsters, supported by their leaders, from nine Cub packs took part.

Their leaders had already spoken about what was the correct dress code to wear for sport in all types of weather, and what fluid they needed to help their hydration.

The activity started with a warm up session and this was led by young leaders Liam Chow and Annie Platt.

Then they led a gentle run around the track for the youngsters aged eight to 10 and a half.

The badge consists of five sections for the youngsters to choose from, which includes relays, field events, short races, and various types of jumps.

The Cubs can do this activity within their school, or at an organised event such as this.

Activities included the long jump, relay, throwing a cricket ball, 50 metres sprint, or skip, and shuttle run. Points were then awarded to each youngster on their achievement and the district was delighted to present all the participants with their badges.

Fun weekend of friendship

Blackpool District Explorer Scouts had a great time of fun and friendship when they met up with their peers from the other Districts connected to West Lancashire Explorers.

The spent the weekend at Great Towers National Camp Site, based just above Windermere, in the Lake District.

Blackpool District Explorers travelled in mini bus convoy from their pick up point at Blackpool Cricket Club.

The theme for the weekend was children’s television characters, with each District given their own classic area, such as Disney, Nickelodeon, CBeebies, and CBBC.

Activities included Wacky Races, football, and entertainment.

Support shown for veterans

Leaders from Blackpool District Scouts were invited by Blackpool Council and the Friends of the Stanley Park to recognise Armed Forces Week.

They took part in a family activity day, along with other voluntary organisations.

The event gave the leaders the opportunity to chat to members of the public who were enjoying the surroundings of the beautiful park, and inform them of the great opportunities in Scouting for young people and potential adult support.

It was so great to see how many families we chatted with were involved in Scouting, or taking such a keen interest in their youngsters joining a group.

It also gave the District the chance to promote our brilliant Gang Show which takes place this year at the Grand Theatre in October.

As the day passed along we had over 30 or so enquiries, so a brilliant and productive day was had by all.
