Running man Edward in award win after raising £32,000 for good cause

Edward Jackson took part in a series of running events on behalf of The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, including the Virgin Money London Marathon last month, and has raised more than £32,000 to date.

And his efforts saw him scoop the Roy’s Runner award at the Stars of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Awards at a ceremony in Liverpool on Thursday.

Paula Chadwick, chief executive of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “Edward has given up so much of his own time to train for and take part in running events across the country to raise money for us.

“His determination gives us all the motivation we need to continue our vital work in researching new ways to detect lung cancer earlier and improve the experience of patients.

“The Stars Awards is a chance for the entire charity to recognise and celebrate all of the many wonderful people who support what we do.”

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation funds research into the disease and supports patients and their families.

It is the UK’s only lung cancer charity, funding more than £1m of research every year to find ways of improving early detection of the disease and improving the experience of lung cancer patients.

The charity also supports people living with lung cancer by providing information material to the NHS, running lung cancer support groups across the UK, supporting nurses, providing patient relief grants and offering telephone and online support.

Television presenter Andy Bonner hosted the ceremony, which also included prizes for unsung hero, corporate supporter, physical challenge, volunteer and The Roy Castle 25th Anniversary Special Contribution Award.
