The change is among a number of minor alterations to services announced by Blackpool Transport, which it says are in response to customer feedback.

Service 9, which serves Victoria Hospital from Cleveleys, will receive the biggest change.

At the moment buses go into Blackpool town centre first before travelling to the hospital, but a new 9a service will travel via Plymouth Road, St Walburgas Road, on to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and then into Blackpool town centre via Newton Drive.

Coun John Hodgkinson, who represents Jubilee ward on Wyre Council, said people in Cleveleys would welcome the new route.

He said: “At the moment the bus goes into Blackpool town centre before travelling to the hospital so it is quite a long journey.

“It will be much more convenient for people if the bus goes to the hospital first.

“A half-hourly service will also be OK.I think a lot of residents in Cleveleys who rely on public transport will welcome this change.”

New Palladium double decker buses will be used on the service when they are delivered to Blackpool Transport in July.

The 9 and 9a will operate seven days a week, with a half-hour frequency during the day time between Monday and Saturday.

Other timetable updates being introduced include some additional early morning journeys being added on services 7, 11 and 14, along with some slight timetable changes on services 2c, 15 and 16 to improve punctuality.

All the changes come into effect from July 10.
