Road closed for hours after man threatened to jump off building

Police closed off a Blackpool street for four hours after a man threatened to jump off a block of flats.

The incident happened at Harrowside Heights, on Brixham Place, shortly after 1pm on Saturday.

The man, dressed in jeans and a polo shirt, could be seen sitting on the edge of the roof, talking on a mobile and shouting incoherently.

Police, paramedics and an aerial platform ladder from the fire service were called out, along with a police helicopter.

Officers closed Brixham Place while they negotiated with the man.

He eventually came down safely around 5pm.
