Councillors have agreed to implement the payment for the coming financial year to enable the collection of green waste to continue.

Last year the scheme generated more than 10,000 subscriptions and around £250,000 in revenue which covered the cost of provision.

A charge was introduced for the first time last year by most councils who could no longer afford to offer the service free of charge due to budget cuts.

There will be 22 fortnightly collections during the year, except between December 2 and January 28.

This equates to a cost of £1.36 per collection in a full year.

Each additional wheeled bin will incur a subscription fee of £25 per year.

A report to councillors sayd: “A charge of £30 for the first bin is proposed, being consistent with other authorities in the North West that have already implemented a charge.”

The fee is also in line with that being charged by neighbouring authorities.
