Residents rate golf above par

AN opinion poll has showed overall satisfaction from residents of Lytham and St Annes during The Open golf tournament.

The survey, conducted by Fylde Council, showed 71 per cent of those questioned felt their overall experience was “good” or “very good”.

More than half of those surveyed said they faced “minimal” disruption to their daily lives during the tournament.

However, 27 per cent described the traffic disruption they experienced during the week as “major”.

Coun Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council’s tourism chief, said: “The area was really buzzing in the golf week and we can confidently say golf visitors will have benefitted the local economy.

“Perhaps more important is the legacy, Lytham and St Annes were mentioned in a positive light in the global media and we look forward to many people visiting in the future as a result.

“Most important, however, are our residents.

“It is an important survey because everyone has a right to speak, and not everyone was happy with all aspects.

“We can only improve for the future if we listen carefully to what people said.”
