Rescue operation carried out off Blackpool coast after person reported in sea

Coastguard volunteers searched the water between North Pier and the Imperial Hotel following reports of a person in the sea.

Coastguard crews from Lytham and Fleetwood rushed to reports a person was possibly in the water near North Pier shortly after 12.50am today (August 7).

On arrival at the scene, crews combed the area between North Pier and the Imperial Hotel to make sure no one was in danger.

Following a thorough search of the water and the beach nothing was sighted and all units were stood down.

A spokesman for Lytham Coastguard said: "Tasked at 12.50am (August 7) to reports of a person possibly in the water at North Pier, ourselves and Fleetwood Coastguard quickly arrived on scene and searched from North Pier to the Imperial Hotel area.

"With nothing sighted in the area, all units were stood down and returned to station."
