Set for the evening Friday, July 8, it’s a fun event which will cover a 5km course starting at The Fairhaven and ending at The Taps via a series of other bars and is inspired by the French Marathon De Medoc.

Runners will be given a race t-shirt showing all the pubs – The Fairhaven, The Ship and Royal, The Station Tavern, The County, wine bar Barrique and The Taps.

They will run around the Lake, along The Green and into Lytham where at each bar they will be given a small glass of beer, have their t-shirt ticked and run on.

The event is the brainchild of Tim Armit, organiser of the St Annes Triathlon and his hope is that hundreds of people will take part and that it might become an annual event.

He said: “The Marathon De Medoc is long-established and legendary in France, with runners drinking wine at
 chateaus through a full marathon.

“I wanted to do something similar here, so I thought beer and pubs is much the same as wine and chateaus!

“We will show that running doesn’t always have to be serious.

“This will be a crazy fun event which we hope weill be an exciting addition to the Lytham calendar.

“There will be medals for all finishers, and especially if the sun shines, it will be great for Lytham, with a few hundred new and excited people in Lytham for the evening bringing business to local restaurants and bars.

“Some hostelries are already making offers for people coming if afterwards with a race number on.”

Taps landlord Steve Norris said: “I think it’s a great idea and there has already been plenty of interest.”
