He said: “This is a huge honour for me and my family. I will carry out the work for the people of Lancashire in this historic role to the best of my abilities. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to make a difference and meaningful contribution to the county.”

In the 1990s, John and his wife Danielle lobbied the radio authorities for the resort to have its own radio station, before winning the licence and launching Radio Wave.

John used this as a platform to continue and grow his charitable involvement, helping to raise millions for local charities.

More than 33 years ago, John and Danielle started the successful Stardream group of companies. John has long been a supporter of charities and good causes across Lancashire.
