Presenters at the internet-based Fylde Coast Radio Station took to the streets in celebration after undergoing a total revamp.

Radio presenter Don Kady, who works at the station, said: “It has been improved considerably. A few weeks ago there were only three presenters here and now there are 30. We were running on old wires and they’ve been completely replaced.

“We’ve dragged Fylde Coast Radio kicking and screaming into the 21st century!

“Everything’s been cleaned and improved and made fit for purpose.”

Mayor of Wyre Terry Lees and the ‘Cosmic Kids’ from Entertainia Dance School in Cleveleys joined in the celebrations on Saturday outside Blackpool Music Academy on Waterloo Road, South Shore, where the station is based.

Don said: “It was a good event. We had the mayor come down just to say hello, and he grabbed the microphone and went up on stage and started singing!”

He added that he hopes the better-quality broadcast would attract more listeners to the station.

He said: “The music we broadcast is specifically aimed at over-45s. It’s right across the board, playing everything from blues to jazz to rock.

“Our tag line is ‘the music you don’t hear anywhere else’.

“A lot of our new presenters are ex-BBC and former professionals who have retired and have a lot of time on their hands.

“When we first started around two years ago, it was just a man and his dog listening. Now we’re bringing in 800 new listeners every week.

“We hope to become a real alternative for people who enjoy music on the Fylde coast.”
