Prominent Blackpool hotel goes up for sale for £1.25m

Libertys Hotel in Cocker Square which has been put up for sale

The Liberty’s Hotel off North Promenade is up for sale for a guide price of £1.25m as part of a review of business.

Owned by Bay Hotels which is linked to the Shearings Holidays group, the 65-bedroom hotel with bar and restaurant was said to have a turnover last year of £1,241,098.

Vince Flower, managing director of Shearings Hotels, said: “We regularly review our hotels portfolio to ensure that we have the right product, capacity and locations in our offering.

“As the tour operator, we don’t own the Bay Liberty’s Hotel property, but work in close partnership with the group that does. As part of a recent review, the hotel owners have decided to put the hotel on the market to see if other parties may be interested in taking over the property.

“The hotel will remain open and operate as normal during this process.

“We are committed to expanding our hotel portfolio and are in advanced discussions on several new locations that we hope to launch in the coming months.”

The Cocker Square hotel is one of 34 venues owned by Bay Hotels.

Claire Smith, chairman of hoteliers group Stay Blackpool, said there had been some positive movement in the resort’s hotel market of late which was good news for all concerned.

She said: “There has been quite a lot of activity already this year with some big hotels changing hands and building projects in the offing.

“A number of good trading hotels have gone at good prices and it important to the resort that they are sold at decent valuations.

“Hotels are always coming on the market and there are signs that they are moving.

“Agents Christies have done well in the town this year.

“Sales are important because there are people wanting to buy hotels in the town, people who want to retire and sell and there are some people who want to go from a small hotel to a bigger one and vice versa.”
