Project will help change drink attitude

The Fylde Community Alcohol Network (CAN) has been put together by Fylde Council. County Hall and Lancashire Police to try and get people drinking sensibly.

The project will support retailers and the community through activities to chance people’s attitudes to excess drinking. Trading Standards will offer advice on the sale of alcohol, youth workers will raise awareness about activities available for young people and the Every Action Has Consequences team will be working with people who have committed minor offences associated with the night-time economy.

Police patrols will also target hotspot areas to seize alcohol from under-18s and support parents to play their part in addressing underage drinking.

Coun Cheryl Little, Fylde Council cabinet member for social wellbeing, said: “Our message is that alcohol can be enjoyable – but don’t let it spoil your summer.

“With warmer weather, longer sunshine hours and holidays there are a lot more opportunities than usual to catch up with friends and family and have a few drinks. But going overboard with it can create problems.

“I hope people will drink responsibly, stay with friends and never drink and drive.”
