Project update: Wifi investment for Lytham

Entertainment company Live Nation has submitted a planning application to Fylde Council seeking permission for the scheme.

The investment would include the delivery of super fast broadband.

Documents submitted with the application say the measure would enable the level of CCTV coverage which is required as part of the premises licence for Lytham Festival.

However at other times, when the festival is not in operation, public wifi would be made available free of charge to visitors to the green.

The annual Lytham Festival attracts up to 70,000 people each year to the town creating a huge tourism boost.

During the build phase limited parts of the site will be fenced off on a rolling basis to reduce disruption.

A car park to the west of the site will provide hard standing for vehicles required as part of the completion of the work.

A planning statement accompanying the application says: “The works are designed to create as little disruption and damage to Lytham Green as is reasonably practicable.

“All plant will be on appropriate tyres for grass.

“Minimal grass will be lifted at any one time to allow the digging of trenches and will be restored as soon as is possible.”

The applicant says: “Live Nation (Music) UK along with key contractors have designed the scheme to have minimal impact on the surrounding area while providing both enhanced services to Lytham Festival and complementary public wife year round to the visitors.”
