Project update: Retirement village will help older folk downsize their homes

Crocus Court, being built by McCarthy and Stone on Station Road, allows older people to downsize while still having an independent lifestyle.

Facilities will include a homeowners’ lounge so residents can socialise, landscaped gardens, and a guest suite so friends or relatives can stay over. 
There is also a restaurant providing freshly cooked meals.
An on-site estates manager will take care of the running of the complex, which also has security entrance systems and 24 hour emergency call points.

The first residents are scheduled to move in by spring next year.

Around 48 per cent of pensioners (5.7 million people) are considering moving to smaller homes or would be encouraged to do so with a stamp duty exemption.

This is 300,000 more than last year.
The figure is expected torise to more than 11 million in 2036 as more and more people look to downsize their properties.

Poulton councillor Alf Clempson said: “As we continue to attract investment in our region, and to secure the sustained growth and prosperity of Poulton, developments such as this are vital to ensure we have adequate housing options for those in later life , to enable those aged 70 and over to enjoy an independent and active retirement, and to feel safe and secure in their home.”
