Project update: Pleasure Beach hotel

Town hall planners approved the application, which received no objections, using their delegated powers.

Part of the Coasters building will also be remodelled to provide a restaurant and bar for the hotel which will also include conference facilities.

In their assessment, planners said the scheme supported strategies “to promote redevelopment and change where it is most needed and, specifically, to raise the quality of Blackpool’s holiday accommodation.”

The scheme is expected to create 70 new jobs, including 30 permanent positions and 40 seasonal vacancies.

The design combines modern examples of American coastal architecture with a contemporary take on Victorian style.

Historic bay windows, gable and pediment details have been incorporated.

The bays will feature floor to ceiling windows to make the most of sea views for both some of the rooms and the first floor bar.

There will also be some outdoor seating on the Promenade elevation.

The planners report adds: “Successful regeneration often on a single project can provide an incentive to other developments.

“The process has already started with the Hampton by Hilton nearing completion, and the current proposal would add to the investment in this area.”
