The Government Access Point project (GAP) teams staff from Trinity Hospice and Brian House with civil servants to give patients information from the likes of the DWP, HMRC, Land Registry, and Ministry of Defence, providing support on money worries at a vulnerable phase of their lives.

Kathie Bates, from Civil Service Local, said: “It is inspiring to see how our pilot with Trinity Hospice has grown into a key part of Trinity’s support and advice service. It is always a privilege to meet the patients and staff at this amazing organisation.”

Gemma Cooper, who works as the lead for Trinity GAP, said: “I volunteered to take part with CS Local to be able to make a difference and give something back to the local community.

“It’s challenging as I am frequently faced with situations I would not come across in my day-to-day role. While this can be emotional, I am in the privileged position of being able to help people who don’t know where to turn, and to make a difference at a difficult time.”
