A spokesman for the pleasure park said that power was lost for no more than a few seconds and that the system was such that no rides had stalled part way once they had left their departure points.

“Shortly after 4pm today, Blackpool Pleasure Beach experienced a short power outage which lasted for a few seconds,” said the spokesman.

“A number of rides were affected and visitors from these rides were safely escorted off.

“No rides were stalled part way through - the way they work is that once they have have left their stations, they continue to the end.

“Following checks, the rides which were affected ran again or were prepared to open. We thank our guests for bearing with us during this time.”

A spokesman for Electricity North West said that the fault had affected some 200 customers, with power returned to the majority within five minutes.

She added: “The Pleasure Beach wasn’t among those directly affected as it would hacve its own generator but the few seconds’ delay would be caused by the switch over to that alternative supply.”
