Poundstretcher set to reveal new store

The mayor is set to open a new discount store at the site of the former B&Q Bispham centre.

Poundstretcher and its sister company Pet Hut are opening on Monday at the site creating 25 jobs, including three managerial roles

B&Q closed in January with some of the staff offered positions at other stores or Screwfix but many being made redundant.

Poundstretcher has taken 20,000 sq ft of retial space at Holyoake Avenue to go with its two existing stores in the resort and has been carrying out work at the store over the past few weeks.

Regional controller, John Graham said: “We look forward to offering our customers in Blackpool an extended range of products from food, toiletries, gardening, homewares and of course pets with the first Pet Hut in Blackpool.

“The team are working hard to deliver an outstanding shopping experience for our new customers with great service and shopping environment .”

He said Pet Hut was the fastest growing discount pet goods retailer in the country stocking a range of goods from pet beds, treats and brushes to animal car products.

The brand launched its pets outlet in 2013 in some of its existing Poundstretcher stores before moving to stand alone shops the following year.

Its aim was to compete with Pets At Home, which has a store on the same site at Holyoake Avenue.

The Mayor Kath Rowson will perform the official opening on Monday morning at 8am.
