Rumours have spread in the port that the event has been pulled because of the wet conditions.

But those claims have been scotched by the team behind the event, which takes place in the Marine Gardens.

Malcolm Lewis, a Fleetwood Rotarian member, said this afternoon: “The rumours are not true, it is still happening.

“It is quite wet but that will not affect the event.”

The spectacle will still start at 6pm and gates will open from 5.30pm and will include music from bands Belvedere, The Jepps and other entertainers, with the firework display starting at 7.30pm.

Last year’s event attracted around 10,000 and was deemed a huge success

The annual event has been organised by a team with representatives from Fleetwood Town Council, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Fleetwood Police, Wyre Borough Council, Regenda Group and the Rotary Club.

Richard Newson, another organising member, said: “This event is going from strength to strength.”
