A popular Indian restaurant and takeaway which opened in Bispham this summer is set to double in size.

The Spice Lobster hit the ground running in August and has won a string of five star reviews.

Owner Khaled Ahmed said he would bring “the real taste of India” to Bispham when it opened opposite Sainsbury’s car park in Red Bank Road.

There were also plans to open a bar nextdoor, in what used to be the Othello Greek restaurant.

The Spice Lobster does not serve alcohol - diners can bring their own bottle and there is no corkage fee - and it was intended that the bar would be linked to the restaurant to allow alcohol to be purchased.

But the bar plans have now fallen through and Khaled says that intead, those premises will become a fuction room which can also provide extra seats for Spice Lobster itself.

He said: “There has been a change of plan because unfortunatly things have not worked out with the bar - instead it will be a function room which can take around 65 to 70 people.

“We tend to get booked up very quickly so it will also mean we can take extra bookings for the restaurant.

“As it is, the customers tell us they like the arrangement where you can bring your own bottle.

“It saves them a lot of money and they can always have the drink of their choice, every time.

“Everyone likes to save money and, if they choose, they can spend extra money on the food!

“It’s been a good experience all round - opening Spice Lobster has created 14 new jobs - 10 in the restaurant and four drivers.”

The new function room is expected to open around December 9/10.
