Poor design prompts planning refusal

A planning application seeking permission to install a new shop front at premises on Waterloo Road in South Shore has been refused by Blackpool Council.

Town hall planners used their delegated powers to throw out the bid for the property opposite the Waterloo Hotel.

The premises has previously been the subject of enforcement action by the council in relation to its use as a mosque.

Planning officers said the latest alterations proposed for the building “would not constitute good design.”

A report setting out the reasons why the application was turned down says: “It would therefore present an incongruous feature within the street scene that would detract from the appearance of the property and fail to take the opportunities available to improve the character and quality of the area and the way that it functions.”

The premises are currently used as a shop and the applicant had wanted to installation a new frontage.
