The bright red sign appeared yesterday (June 22) and has been erected by Lytham Quays Management Company on behalf of the residents of the nearby Villas.

It has irked many residents with people suggesting that the tone of the sign appears 'hostile' and 'unpleasant'.

The sign forbids visitors from using the green space and warns people not to engage in a number of leisure and social activities, including picnics and games.

The sign reads: "PRIVATE LAND. Please keep to footpath. Dogs on leads.

It adds: "The following are PROHIBITED. Games, picnics, BBQs, horse riding, motor vehicles, skateboarding, loitering, all noisy activities.

"Please respect the privacy of the residents."

Lytham Quays Management Company said the sign has been put in place in response to recent incidences of nuisance quad bike use and anti-social behaviour.

Whilst the area is in the private ownership of the Lytham Quays Management Company and is not designated as a public right of way, it is deemed an area of public open space.

Fylde Council said it has been made aware of the new sign and it has raised its concerns with the management company. It said 'discussions' are on-going.

But the Council has confirmed that the green space remains open to the public and "is available for use by those wishing to take advantage of it."

It added that it should "continue to be an area of public open space that is attractive and welcoming to all Fylde’s residents and visitors".

This is what the Council has said

A council spokesman said: "The council received reports of the erection of this sign yesterday (June 22) and has been in contact with the agents responsible for the management of the area.

"They advise that the sign has been erected in response to recent incidences of quad bike use and other anti-social behaviour.

"Whilst the area of land between the Lytham Quays development and the Estuary is not designated as a public right of way, it is an area of public open space that was incorporated into that development at the time of its construction to serve as an extension to Lytham Green and so is available for use by those wishing to take advantage of it, albeit this use should only be in a responsible manner.

"Council officials are in on-going discussions with the managing agents which it is hoped will be quickly concluded so that the area will continue to be an area of public open space that is attractive and welcoming to all Fylde’s residents and visitors who are looking to utilise it in a considerate manner."
